Shibori (Japanese manual tie-dyeing technique)

Shibori(絞り) is a dyeing technique used to create a pattern by applying pressure, such as tying a part of the cloth, to prevent the dye from seeping in.

Such a pattern was preferred because it was high-class to have a pattern on the entire fabric.

It has been adopted since the 6th century, but since the 16th century, the technology has developed fast, and it is one of the current high-class kimono fabrics.

Typical production area: Kyoto, Kyoto & Nagoya, Aichi
